1967 Selmer Mark VI Tenor sax – 141xxx, Vertical Mark VI Stamp w/ Pro Overhaul!
This is a 1967, 141,xxx Selmer mark vi tenor sax with fully functional varitone system in near mint condition. It’s pretty rare that you find one these horns with the varitone still in-tact and this one is a fantastic player. It’s always been my opinion that the 140xxx (with vertical mark vi stamps) are very similar in design to the legendary 80xxx, in feel and sound. This one really feels and plays like my 84xxx, with a complex and beautiful color to the sound but without the heaviness to the sound that the 80xxx’s can sometimes have. This horn is vitually flawless with only a tiny bit of laq. Wear to the neck but the neck is original and has never been pulled down or damaged. On first glance you would think that this horn is original but upon careful evaluation I’m gonna error on the side of caution and say that it’s most likely been carefully refinished and priced accordingly (most likely by Selmer- and I say this because no other tech could do such a precise job as one done to this horn). The engraving is just ever-so slightly lighter than what would be on an original horn but still maintains a gorgeous honey patina that is loved by so many. The horn has had a recent pro overhaul and this horn just sings from top to bottom. The varitone system could easily be removed if the new owner desires.
